TRAFFIC LIGHTS as TORCH FOR TEACHER QUALITY

The quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers. (McKinley, 2007).

A road signal for directing vehicular traffic by means of colored lights, typically red for stop, green for go, and yellow for proceed with caution. Also called stoplight, traffic signal. Likewise, traffic lights in education served as a workplace situation usually considered by teachers and administrators. It may served also as torch for directing teacher quality as it represents the ability of teacher to serve and consumes itself to light the way for others and for the ability of education to serve as a beacon of light; thus, eradicating ignorance and promoting quality education.

As regards to love for humanity, traffic lights signal to control the flow of traffic at intersections which mean controlling the workplace as when to stop, look, and listen; on the other hand, torch signals as a guiding light to enlighten and brighten the path of others and later themselves. In Philippine educational system, teachers are guided by these traffic lights and torch as standards and as a framework of teacher quality (D. O. No. 42, 2017). As McKinley (2007) quoted, “the quality of an education system cannot exceed the quality of its teachers.

There are top 3 school systems which can be associated with these signals for teacher quality. In a nutshell, torch in red light means STOP searching teachers once standards for deployment was achieved, if not, continue searching and training; torch in yellow light means letting the teachers to slowly drive and go forward to become effective in their own craft with support system from left to right of the administrators; and torch in green light means ensuring that the system is available to GO and teach with quality because there was a light at every corner.

Remember, once a teacher, always a teacher. Life always give us exactly the teacher we need at every moment. Administrators’ decision is one factor that needs to be considered in promoting quality education, teachers are highly motivated when they see these lights on their ways for teacher quality within their workplace.
