LUCENA CITY, Quezon – In a continuous effort to maintain urban sanitation, the Solid Waste Management Division (SWMD) of Lucena City has intensified its road-cleaning campaign. The initiative, led by the group known as "Tropang Kalye," operates regardless of weather conditions to ensure the city's thoroughfares remain free of waste.
SWMD Head Marek Tabernilla reported that the cleaning operation, supervised by Ramil Caballero and Roy Palciso, primarily targets the public market. The teams regularly remove significant volumes of garbage and also clear any residual waste left behind by collection trucks, ensuring the area is completely sanitized.
Public cooperation, according to Tabernilla, is critical for the campaign's success. He emphasized that this practice not only significantly reduces the workload for collectors but also minimizes the need for extensive manual cleanup by the street sweepers, ensuring a cleaner and healthier city for everyone.
The division head emphasized that adherence to proper waste management protocols not only streamlines the work of sanitation teams but also contributes to overall urban cleanliness and public health. This approach, Tabernilla concluded, is part of a broader commitment to environmental stewardship, which is crucial for reducing health risks and creating a more sustainable community.
The campaign is part of the city's long-term plan to promote a culture of environmental responsibility, particularly among the youth. By actively engaging both its personnel and the public through educational drives and consistent cleanup operations, Lucena aims to set a benchmark for effective waste management in the region.
