LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Following the implementation of the city’s rerouting scheme aimed at easing traffic congestion and improving road flow, a possible shift toward technology-based public transportation is now being explored in Lucena. Momentum toward this initiative grew after Mayor Hon. Mark Don Victor B. Alcala met with PressItNow Co. to evaluate the proposed rollout of the Pindot App as part of the city’s broader mobility reforms.
PressItNow Co. is the company behind the Pindot App, described as the country’s first app-based tricycle hailing service operating through mobile technology. The platform was presented as a system that allows commuters to book tricycle rides through their mobile phones instead of relying solely on street hailing or terminal queues.
The meeting was led by PressItNow Co. CEO Dominic L. Bala, who formally introduced the application and explained its intended benefits for the local transport sector and riding public. He said the platform is designed to make ride booking more organized while helping tricycle drivers secure more consistent daily income.
According to the company, the Pindot App allows passengers to request rides through real-time booking and location-based driver matching within designated service areas. The system also records trip details digitally, which may help improve transparency, passenger security, and monitoring of services.
Beyond passenger transport, the platform includes delivery service features that allow partner drivers to transport parcels and goods for local businesses. Company representatives said this added function could create supplemental income streams for drivers while supporting small and medium enterprises in the city.
The company also promoted the platform as a delivery partner for local businesses handling bulk or regular orders within the city. It highlighted features such as easy booking, verified drivers, real-time tracking of items, and secure delivery designed to give business owners added confidence and convenience.
The country’s first tricycle hailing application is set to begin operations in Lucena in the near future, marking another step in the city’s transport modernization efforts. Company representatives said preparations are now underway for its initial rollout phase, with systems being finalized ahead of the scheduled launch.
A trial run of the Pindot App is scheduled to begin in the coming days ahead of its planned official launch in Lucena City later this month. The pilot phase will allow the city government to evaluate system performance, commuter response, and its effect on the existing tricycle transport structure.
Mayor Alcala reaffirmed the city government’s openness to new ideas and modern systems while emphasizing the need to protect public interest at all times. He stressed that any new transport service must follow the law and serve the needs of the majority of Lucenahins.
“Bukas ang pamahalaang lungsod sa mga makabagong solusyon na makatutulong sa pag-unlad ng ating transportasyon at kabuhayan. Ngunit dapat tiyakin na ang bawat hakbang ay sumusunod sa batas at nagsisilbi sa kapakanan ng nakararami,” Mayor Alcala said.
To ensure compliance with city regulations, drivers applying for registration must present a valid Driver’s License and an existing tricycle franchise issued by authorities. PressItNow Co. clarified that joining the platform does not replace local permits and that all participating drivers will remain subject to established city ordinances and transport policies.
The city government is expected to closely monitor the initial rollout and gather feedback from drivers, commuters, and transport stakeholders during the trial period. Further decisions regarding long-term implementation will be based on the results of the pilot test and its overall benefit to residents.
