SARIAYA, Quezon — Food security continues to depend heavily on the work and resilience of local farmers across rural communities. Agricultural development in towns like Sariaya, Quezon remains closely tied to the productivity and welfare of farming communities.
Sariaya renewed its commitment to local farmers during the celebration of Araw ng Magsasaka 2026 held on May 13. The activity formed part of the Agawan Festival and gathered farmers from different barangays in the municipality.
Municipal Administrator Randy L. Tronila attended the observance representing Mayor Marivic T. Gayeta. Farmer organizations, agriculture workers, and representatives from government agencies also joined the celebration.
Agricultural assistance, indemnity support, and financial aid were distributed to farmer beneficiaries during the program at the Sariaya Municipal Park. Members of the Sariaya Farmers Federation or SAFAFED headed by Claire Atienza were among those who received assistance.
Officials from the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation and the Philippine Coconut Authority also joined the activity supporting farming communities in Sariaya. The agencies participated in the municipal observance alongside local agriculture groups and beneficiaries.
As assistance programs continued during the celebration, local officials also highlighted efforts to strengthen farming livelihoods in the municipality. Farmers continue receiving support through agricultural training, farm inputs, and coordination with agriculture agencies operating in Sariaya.
In a message delivered during the celebration, Tronila assured farmers that the local government would continue supporting programs for the agriculture sector in Sariaya. He said the municipality remains committed to initiatives aimed at helping local farmers improve their livelihood and production.
“Asahan po ninyo na ang Lokal na Pamahalaan ay mananatiling katuwang ninyo sa pagpapalakas ng sektor ng agrikultura,” Tronila said. “Patuloy naming susuportahan ang mga programang makatutulong sa ating mga magsasaka at kanilang kabuhayan.”
Tronila also thanked local farmers for their continuing dedication and sacrifices in sustaining agricultural production in the municipality. The message formed part of the recognition rites prepared for participating farmers during the annual observance.
“Sa inyong walang sawang pagtatrabaho at sakripisyo, patuloy na umaani ng pag-asa at kasaganaan ang ating bayan,” Tronila said. “Kayo po ang tunay na haligi ng ating agrikultura at inspirasyon ng bawat pamilyang Sariayahin.”
The activity was conducted through the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist and the Sariaya Tourism, Culture and the Arts Office. This year’s observance carried the theme “Matatag na Magsasaka, Matibay na Ekonomiya.”
Araw ng Magsasaka formed part of the wider Agawan Festival celebration honoring San Isidro Labrador. The festival is known for its “agawan” tradition where residents and visitors gather to catch fruits, vegetables, and native delicacies during community festivities and processions.
Traditional games and competitions such as Palarong Lahi and the PINAKA Contest also highlighted the celebration and strengthened camaraderie among members of the local agriculture sector. Farmers and participants also joined community activities prepared as part of the municipality’s annual Araw ng Magsasaka observance.
