INFANTA, Quezon - LONG-PLANNED modernization and expansion of Dinahican Port moved closer to implementation after Infanta officials and representatives of the Philippine Ports Authority inspected the facility and discussed transferring its management. Upgrading the coastal gateway is expected to increase port capacity while improving services for fishermen, traders and communities that depend on the movement of fishery products and other commercial goods.

Under the proposed arrangement, the Infanta municipal government and the Philippine Ports Authority are expected to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement covering the transfer of port management. Once the agreement is finalized, the national port agency would oversee development and operations, with implementation of the planned modernization program estimated to take about two years.

Mayor Lord Arnel “LA” Ruanto said the planned improvements are intended to strengthen Dinahican Port’s role in supporting local livelihoods while providing more suitable facilities for residents and businesses. He also stressed the importance of sustained coordination with national agencies as the municipality works to move the project from preliminary planning toward actual implementation.

“Layunin nating magkaroon ng mas maayos at mas malaking Dinahican Port na makatutulong sa ating mga mangingisda, negosyante at sa buong komunidad. Patuloy tayong makikipag-ugnayan sa mga kinauukulang ahensya upang maisakatuparan ang proyektong ito at mapakinabangan ito ng ating mga kababayan,” Ruanto said.

Efforts to improve Dinahican Port had earlier reached the national level after Ruanto raised the proposed development during a visit to the Senate. Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan endorsed efforts to improve the facility, while Quezon 1st District Rep. Mark Enverga subsequently responded to moves aimed at advancing the proposed project.
