In order to collect and generate information on the levels, structure, performance and trends of economic activities of the formal sector of the economy for the year 2016, the Philippine Statistics Authority – Quezon Provincial Statistical Office (PSA-Quezon) is conducting the 2016 Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industry (ASPBI).
The ASPBI as one of the designated statistics of the government is a continuing activity of the PSA. This survey generates essential statistics that can be used as bases upon which the government and the private sector can formulate policies and evolve economic development plans.
Specifically, the objectives of the 2016 ASPBI include the following:
1. Collect and generate detailed information on employment, income, expense, inventories, tangible fixed assets, intangible assets and total assets of the establishments;
2. Generate indicators such as value added, labor productivity, average compensation and others necessary to evaluate the performance of industries at the national and regional levels;
3. Generate data for Business Process Management (BPM) activities
4. Generate micro, small and medium establishments/enterprises (MSME) data using total employment; and
5. Gather information for the improvement of the list of establishments and enterprises.
The total number of sample establishments to be surveyed by PSA-Quezon for the 2016 ASPBI is 259, distributed in the 28 municipalities and two cities in the province.  The municipalities/cities with more than ten sample establishments  to be surveyed are Candelaria (21), Sariaya (19), Tayabas City (18), Lucban (15), Gumaca (11), and Atimonan (11). Lucena City has the most number of sample establishments with 81.
Provincial Statistics Officer  Airene A. Pucyutan of PSA-Quezon  encourages owners and managers of establishments/enterprises in Quezon province who were chosen as respondents of ASPBI to participate in the said survey.  The  PSA- Quezon is authorized to collect information from businesses and industries under Republic Act No. 10625. Section 27 of the law obliges the establishments to provide required data. The information collected shall be kept strictly confidential and shall not be used for purposes of taxation, investigation or regulation as provided under Article 55 of the Implementing Rules and Regulation of RA 10625. Related to this, PSA-Quezon will be holding a Stakeholder’s Forum  in May 2017 in Lucena City to provide target respondents a broader perspective and better appreciation of the ASPBI.
