PADRE BRUGOS, Quezon -- Padre Burgos Mayor Roger Panganiban along with other local officials and DepEd officials led the lighting of a 6-foot ASEAN lantern and flagpole in participation to the simultaneous landmark lighting for the 50th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held at the new municipal tennis court last 8 August.
About 500 attendees composed officials and employees of Padre Burgos LGU, local residents and other employees from the national government agencies witnessed the lighting ceremony.
Mayor Panganiban thanked the dancers, teachers, the Philippine Information Agency (PIA)-Quezon and Radyo Pilipinas- DWLC- Lucena City for covering and joining the simultaneous landmark lighting ceremony.
In his message, Mayor Panganiban pointed out the importance of ASEAN like supporting its member-states including the Philippines in terms of economic, social and cultural aspects. He also cited the municipal governments support and cooperation in celebrating the ASEAN 50th founding anniversary.
“Sa pamamagitan ng tinatawag na mutual recognition arrangement ng mga bansang kasapi ng ASEAN, mas mapapdali ang pagproseso ng mga trabaho para sa mga propesyonal gaya ng mga inhinyero, arkitekto, nars, land surveyors, doctor , dentist, accountants, mga tourism professional at iba pa” , the mayor added.
Students from the different schools participated in a one-hour colorful cultural/dance presentations showcasing the culture of 10 ASEAN countries highlighted the event.
Meanwhile, PIA-Quezon installed an ASEAN info kiosk near the ASEAN lantern to display and distribute different brochures to increase awareness of the constituents on ASEAN benefits. (Ruel Orinday/ PIA- Quezon)
