DENR-PENRO Quezon to implement garden competition in Lucena City

LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (DENR-PENRO) Quezon will soon implement a garden competition in Lucena City.

This initiative is in partnership with the Lucena City Homeowners’ Association and City Government of Lucena and will be implemented in line with the ‘Tayo ang Kalikasan’ (TAK) program of the DENR which aims to protect the environment.

Galo Martinez, Chief of the Management Services Division of DENR-PENRO Quezon disclosed that prior to the full implementation of the project in the middle part of 2019, a memorandum of Agreement (MOA), which will be the basis and guide in the implementation, is being finalized by their office.

Martinez was interviewed during the “Balikatan Unlimited with PIA” aired over DWLC-Radyo Pilipinas Lucena City on January 17.

He urged local residents, associations such as people’s organization, and other groups in Lucena City and Quezon province to join and support the garden competition program.

This will also generate jobs and develop new entrepreneurs, improve aesthetic value of surroundings, promote garden tourism, and distribute economic and livelihood opportunities, he added.

According to DENR-PENRO Quezon, the garden completion with fabulous awards is a component of SRAC for cleaner environment which will start in July 2019. The competition will focus on exhibition of ornamental plants mixed with herbs and vegetables arranged in a manner that will enhance aesthetic value of the area and practical enough to consider interactive gardening.

It added that the use of organic materials and fertilizers in this contest shall be a factor along with compliance with specific environmental policies. The practice of composting biodegradable wastes is also an advantage.
