CALAMBA CITY, Laguna – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Calabarzon is encouraging elective and/or appointive state workers and members of non-government organizations (NGOs) to apply as deputized environment and natural resources officers (DENROs) or “eco warriors.”

Ann Hazel D. Javier of the DENR Calabarzon Regional Strategic Communication and Initiatives Section (RSCIS), told Philippine News Agency on Thursday that the prospective DENROs may apply in line with the Department Administrative Order 2008-22 which directly involves the citizenry in the country’s protection and conservation of the environment and natural resources.

Javier said these DENROs are deputized to help in enforcement of environment laws, rules and regulations and do Information, Education, Communication (IEC) drives related to environment.

She said the DENROs could also assist in documentation of the administrative confiscation proceedings, such as issuance of apprehension receipts, seizure orders, and notices of hearings.

“Pursuant to the Department Administrative Order, they (DENROs) are also authorized to arrest, even without a warrant, any person who has committed an offense under environmental laws, rules and regulations, as well as appearing as a witness in court against complaints regarding environmental violators,” she added.

“Support from other government agencies and stakeholders are important in upholding these efforts,” she added.

Javier said the DENROs may be persons or groups duly deputized by the DENR over a specific area of jurisdiction and sector such as on forestry, mines, as stipulated in the deputation order.

The deputation order may also cover protected areas like national parks, marine resources, sanctuaries, and other lands of public domain. (PNA)
