LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The head of the Provincial Planning and Development Committee (PPDC) said on Monday they are making headway on tourism strategies across 39 towns and two cities in the province this year.
PPDC head Maria Odessa Perez said Quezon, the sixth largest province in the country, will maximize its full potential not only as the country’s “coconut capital province” but also will optimize infrastructure support facilities, capacity building, and policy and program harmonization to boost tourism.
“We have developmental strategies. We have for Northern Quezon tourism, Central Quezon agriculture, tourism and commerce, (and) for District 2, we have heavy industry, commerce and airport. We have for Lamon Bay, agriculture, tourism and education; for Bondoc Peninsula, we have agriculture and tourism; and Ragay Gulf District, tourism, fisheries and minerals,” Perez said.
“We are pushing for more strategies, more initiatives para makatugon tayo sa talagang pangangailangan ng local governance dito sa provincial government at makatugon tayo sa serbisyong kinakailangan ng mga mamamayan ng ating lalawigan (so we could address the real needs in local governance of the provincial government and attend to services needed by our constituents),” she added.
Among these ongoing development projects are the concreting of the Polillo-Burdeos Road, which is already 70 percent for completion; construction of the Quezon Science High School Laboratory Building; and the acquisition of various medical equipment for Quezon Medical Center (QMC) and other district hospitals.
Meanwhile, the provincial government, through its Provincial Tourism Office and the Festival Organizing Committee led by Provincial Administrator Roberto Gajo, is now finalizing in staging the “Niyugyugan Festival 2019, which the Department of Tourism hailed as “a real example of a sustainable tourism program”.
Dubbed as the “mother of all festivals” in the province, the “Niyugyugan Festival” scheduled on August 16 to 26, will showcase Quezon’s primary agricultural product -the coconut as a “tree of life”, and how this “super crop” has influenced the unique character of the province, its culture and people.
The 10-day festival will feature art booths, agri-trade fair, product displays, and the crowd-drawing street parade and dancing at the Provincial Capitol compound. (PNA)
