Lieutenant General Gilbert Gapay AFP Led a tree planting activity. Joint project of Southern Luzon Command, Pugad Lawin lucena, Banahaw Golf Club Inc, DENR,FFCCCll, QPPO,SLSU, SLSU Tiaong and with a theme “PROTECT MOUNT BANAHAW” 1,000 trees where planted by this group on 14, September 2019 at Sitio Nancaan, Dolores Quezon. DOLORES, QUEZON- “Our target for ENGP is to cover 1.2 million hectares of deluded forestlands and hope to achieve this by year 2022”.

This was the message of DENR secretary Roy Cimatu delivered by the DENR Assistant Regional Director Art Fadriquela to the hundreds of people during the conduct of “Joint Tree Growing” on 14 September 2019 at Sitio Nancaan, Brgy. Sta. Lucia Dolores, Quezon.

Joint Tree Growing, also known as “Protect Mount Banahaw” is one of the DENR’s joint project which aims to fight deforestation by planting trees and at the same time protecting and maintaining its existing forests.

The event was graced by the Southern Luzon Command, Pugadlawin Lucena, Banahaw Golf Club, DENR, FFCCCII, QPPO, SLSU-TIAONG students and other stakeholders who gladly share their efforts and time to plant 1,000 narra trees.

In his opening remarks, Dolores Mayor Orlan Calayag emphasizes the need to grow trees by saying, “Our next generation will judge us, history will judge us kapag hindi natin ginawa ang mga nararapat nating gawin. Ito po ay umpisa pa lamang, sana ay gawin natin itong mas malimit.”

The Protected Area Superintendent Ms. Salud S. Pangan also give a message in which she focuses on the importance of Mt. Banahaw-Mt. Cristobal Protected Landscape. “Ang 77-90% ng samut-saring buhay ay dito sa ating bundok matatagpuan. Ang ating bundok ay napakahalaga kasi po ang ibinabahagi niya ay tubig. Ito ang pinagkukunan ng tubig ng Quezon at Laguna.”

Aside from the tree growing, signing of wall of commitment were also held led by Lt. Gen Gilbert Gapay of COMSOLCOM as an attestation of their dedication in protecting the mountain.

Other personnels who expresses their environmental support are Col Rolando Dumawa PA of ACUCS, Mr. Gregorio E. Santos of ERBD-UBRDEC, Retired Lt. Gen. Caesar Ronnie F. Ordoyo, Mr. Rolly E. Ramirez of BGC Inc., Mr. Marcel V. Constantino of Pugadlawin and Director Nelson S. Licup of FFCCCII.

The activity ended with DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu’s message of hoping that we will all get to see Mt. Banahaw fully covered again with trees and other plants. He also encourages people to make the protected landscape reserved and protected against environmental criminals.
