Participants of Environmental Paralegal and Kalikasan Newscaster Training from Mauban and Tagkawayan.

TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Tanggol Kalikasan, Inc. sponsored and led the holding of the Environmental Paralegal and Kalikasan News Caster Training last October 16-19, 2019 at Nawawalang Paraiso Hotel and Resort, Tayabas City, Quezon Province.

Tanggol Kalikasan, Inc. Southern Luzon Quezon Area Director Julieta B. Aparicio and Program Director for CBP Jay S. Lim both said the training was attended by members of the community-based monitoring teams of Mauban and Tagkawayan towns.

“Makakatulong ang training na ito sa ating monitoring team sa paguulat ng mga kaganapan sa ating environment o kapaligiran, partikular ang mga pang-aabuso o ilegal na gawaing nakakasira sa ating natural resources o likas na yaman, at ganoon din naman ang magagandang ginagawa ng mga grupong sibiko at mga environmentalists upang mapangalagaan ang mga ito, to save mother earth,” Lim explained.


About 50 members of the two town’s monitoring teams attended said training. Participated by Tagkawayan SB Councilors, MENRO, PPC President, Social Action Center representative and parish lay workers from the Diocese of Gumaca.

Invited as a resource person for the training was Sentinel Times Publisher Ma. Nimfa L. Estrellado who shared her experiences and challenges as media practitioner and talked newsreporting, covering events and how to protect oneself from harassment of some personalities who are onion-skinned through Shield Law (RA 53 as amended by RA 1477).

“Napapanahon ang training ng kalikasan news caster dahil sa ngayon ang laging laman ng dyaryo, radyo, tv at kahit social media pag hindi natokhang, ay patayan ng tao. Samantalang mas malala na ngayon ang patuloy na pagpatay sa kalikasan na hindi napapagtutuunan ng seryosong pagbabalita. Mas kailangan natin ito ngayon dahil sa bukod sa patayan lang na mga balita talamak di ang mga fake news. Kung matutotong gumawa ng balitang tama ang ating mga kalicaster makikilala nila ang mali o fakenews na balita. Nakatulong na tayo sa kalikasan nagampanan pa natin ang pagiging matuwid at responsableng mamamayan.” Lim added.
