BATANGAS CITY - The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region IV-A distributed a total of P43.8 million agricultural inventions to 45 Batangueño farmers-representatives on 11 June 2020.

The said agricultural assistance given to the farmers from the towns of San Nicolas, Agoncillo, and Laurel was brought to them through the continuous coordination of the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg) to DA CALABARZON.

According to the DA CALABARZON, the distribution of assistance to farmers is part of the ongoing Taal Recovery and Rehabilitation Program, which was first distributed to damaged towns when the Taal Volcano erupted the various subsidized crops such as budded calamansi, guyabano, lanzones, cacao seedlings, and banana sucker.

There are also fertilizers, plant growth enhancers, livestock animals like cattle, buffaloes, and goats. Also included were broiler and native chickens, as well as some farm equipment including plastic bins, pruning shears, and sprayers for knapsacks.

DA CALABARZON Regional Director Arnel V. de Mesa said that food security and sustainability targets should not be postponed or halted, despite extreme trials that the country is facing such as the eruption of the Taal Volcano and the ongoing threat of highly infectious African Swine Fever ( ASF) and Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19).

Director de Mesa also expressed his sympathy to the farmers of Batangas and stressed that their agency would fully support the proper implementation of agricultural programs in the province.

“Ang DA 4A ay nakahandang tumulong sa mga magsasaka kahit anong sitwasyon ng buhay,” said Provincial Agriculturist, Engr. Pitoito Balantac, who is sincerely grateful for the department.

With the release of the OPAg report, the DA's donated subsidies will help farmers to restart despite the recent disaster. They also set up their office to provide support for projects of the Department of Agriculture and Batangueño farmers.  (with reports from PIA-Batangas/Batangas Capitol PIO)
