SARIAYA, Quezon - The Provincial Committee on Migration and Development (PCMD) and Provincial Gender and Development (PGAD), led by Atty. Geoff San Augustin held the 'Quezon Balikbayan Caravan' in the town of Sariaya on June 30 to support Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in the province. It was spearheaded by Governor Danilo E. Suarez and Mayor Marcelo Gayeta.

There were 16 repatriated OFWs working in different countries such as Vietnam, Taiwan, Dubai, Bahrain, Kuwait, Miami, Laos, Singapore, and E. Guinea from the towns of Sariaya and Candelaria.





The project aims to provide relief and services to our repatriated overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who have lost their jobs and returned to our country due to COVID 19, which includes various agencies and offices, such as The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), the Office of the Provincial Agriculture (OPA), the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), the Office of the Provincial Veterinary (OVET), the Provincial Tourism Office are also partners with the Landbank of the Philippines, St. Jude Multi-purpose Cooperative, Seafarers Cooperative, CARE-MBA, Philhealth, Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Social Services System (SSS), Department of Education, Love, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Southern Luzon State University ( SLSU), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), Department of Interior and Local Government, Public Employment Service Office (PESO), LGU Sariaya and LGU Candelaria has conducted guidance and counseling services, economic services / livelihood programs, financial literacy programs and gender sensitivity training.

In a message from Mayor Marcelo Gayeta of Sariaya, while sharing programs and initiatives in their hometown, he said he salutes OFWs who have traveled abroad to raise the lives of their families.





This was followed by a speech by Governor Danilo E. Suarez, together with Provincial Administrator / Agriculturist Roberto Gajo, Executive Assistant III Roger Panganiban, Executive Assistant II Tina Talavera and Board Member Beth Sio. The Governor said the program is to provide the services of the Provincial Government to the OFWs who have returned to the Province as the so-called modern heroes of our time and one of the major contributors to the development of the economy. The services provided by them include free hospitalization at Government Hospitals in the Province.

The OFWs received over 10,000 livelihood assistance from the local government of Sariaya, three OPVET native pigs, OPA crop seeds, PSWDO food packs and IEC materials from various departments of the provincial government.





The Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) is one of the members of the PCMD who expressed their assistance to the OFWs.

According to the DICT, there will be short courses/programs for OFWs and free Wi-Fi access in a number of public areas that will provide employment opportunities.

Meanwhile, OWWA and DOLE representatives said they were working together to assist repatriated OFWs returning to the country through the "Hatid-Sundo Program" and the online application of DOLE Apply for financial assistance to OFWs.

Many cooperatives in the province have also extended their programs to OFWs such as the St. Jude Multipurpose Cooperative and Seafarers Cooperative, as well as the "OFW Reintegration Program" of Landbank.

The Department of Agriculture also expressed support to help provide crops and other assistance, while the Provincial Gender and Development Office shared financial literacy and gender sensitivity to the OFWs.

The caravan is also expected to take place in other towns in the province of Quezon. To date, the Provincial Government has continued its initiatives, such as the expanded health coupon that can be used in private pharmacies, the CT Scan Livelihood Scan service at the Quezon Medical Center, and the MRI facility in tandem with other Caravan operations in other areas in the province.
