CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, Dec. 15 (PIA) Department of Health (DOH) – CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) today finalizes its preparedness plan of action in case a possible surge of Covid-19

OIC-Regional Director Paula Paz N. Sydiongco stated that Christmas celebration is part of our family tradition and families are brought together by love, holiday spirit, cultural practice and Filipino tradition.

“However, this is the time to say “No”. Group activities carries significant risk, especially during this time of pandemic and we do not want to endanger our lives and that of our family,” she stressed.

The unnecessary movement and mobility of people, including face-to-face interaction must be prevented otherwise the vulnerable population will be at higher risk and hospital placement and referral will again be an immediate concern.

The upsurge of cases next year will be dependent on the actions that will be implemented by health authorities for the last few weeks.

According to Dr. Voltaire S. Guadalupe, Medical Officer IV and Head of the Regional Health Emergency Medical Service, preparedness measures for Covid-19 as well as non-communicable diseases must be instituted, especially at the local level.

“We have requested local government units in the provinces to submit their plan of action so that we can have a contingency strategy that will enable health authorities and other officials to respond quickly in case an increase in infection occurs,” he emphasized.

“We must be ready at all times, and we will be placing all health facilities on Code White Alert for the entire holiday season,” he added.

The regional office will also implement the DOH Department Circular 2020-0355, or the Reiteration of the Minimum Public Health Standards for COVID-19 Mitigation during the holidays, to remind Filipinos to continue observing anti-coronavirus policies, like physical distancing, wearing of face masks and face shields, and frequent handwashing.

Under the circular, holiday activities such as caroling, shopping in crowded markets and shopping centers, indoor gathering with large crowds, riding in stuffed public transportation vehicles, and others that involve physical contact are discouraged.

“As we make our plans for the coming holiday season, it is best to include our health as well. Let us continue to observe minimum health protocols and staying at home as much as possible and avoiding attending other dinner parties outside your household,” Dr. Sydiongco reminded the public.

“Let us enjoy and celebrate and keep ourself and our family safe,” she encouraged.

According to CALABARZON Covid-19 Case Bulletin as of December 14, 2020, there are 302 new cases recorded with brings the total cases to 65,549 with 5,189 active cases.

There are 58,549 reported recoveries with 1,811 deaths. (PIA-4A/DOH CALABARZON)
