BATANGAS CITY - A "Drive-in Misa de Gallo" is held by the parish of St. Mary Euphrasia every 5:30 in the morning, in the parking lot of SM Hypermarket, barangay Balagtas.

This is a safe way for the Batangueñong Catholics to continue the tradition of Simbang Gabi or Misa de Gallo now that there are no mass celebrations in the barangays due to the limitations under the general community quarantine.



According to Fr. Ilde Dimaano, Parish Priest of St. Mary Euphrasia, the purpose of the said work is to enable the patrons to continue their nine-night vows.

" Nais natin na matugunan ang spiritual needs lalong lalo na ng mga senior citizens for them to receive the LORD sacramentally. Hinihikayat din ito ng CBCP," Fr. Ilde explained.



About 200 vehicles join in the mass celebration every day where the attendees only stay inside the vehicle while their car stereos are tuned in to the station where the live mass is hooked. There is also an LED wall where you can watch the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

Priests and lay ministers approach vehicles to give communion to those on board.



Where Fr. Ilde that they are sure that this method of solidarity with the Misa de Gallo is safe and complies with health and safety protocols. "Malawak ang parking, magkakalayo ang sasakyan at ang kasama lang sa loob ay mismong kasama din nila sa bahay," Father added.

He also said that barangay health workers and police are assigned here for the security of all.

Fr. Ilde to Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, to the leadership of SM Hypermarket and to Mayor Beverley Dimacuha for approving and supporting such a project.

The Drive-in Misa de Gallo will be held until December 24 and the Christmas Mass will also be celebrated here on December 25, at 5:30 p.m.
