Holy Week observance in Laguna generally peaceful: Laguna PNP

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — The Laguna Police Provincial Office on Tuesday said the observance of Holy Week in the entire province was ‘generally peaceful.’

In a press statement, the Laguna PPO said they had not recorded any untoward accidents during the Lenten season from April 10 to 17.

Laguna PPO Director, Police Colonel Cecilio Ison, Jr., has attributed the peaceful observance of this year’s Holy Week to increased police visibility in the different parts of the province, especially in identified areas of convergence such as public terminals, pilgrimage sites, and tourist destinations.

“This year, we have increased the number of personnel deployed in various churches and set up assistance desks in these areas to ensure that assistance will be readily accessible to the public,” Ison said.

During the Holy Week, Ison also led the inspection of police stations and various bus terminals in the province to ensure well-coordinated police operations.

Meanwhile, Ison explained the attempted robbery incident at a bank located in Brgy. Dila in Bay was an isolated case and not related to the Holy Week. The Laguna PPO Director added that the incident was foiled after Bay Police responded and that investigation is ongoing for the immediate arrest of the suspects.

The intensified police interventions will continue to ensure public safety as people observe summer vacation, according to Ison. — FC, PIA 4A (with reports from Laguna PPO)
