CALAMBA CITY, Laguna - Several municipalities and cities in Laguna will have new leaders after the current chief executives' opponent won the election on Monday, May 9.

According to the most recent Commission on Elections (COMELEC) data, Francis Joseph 'Art' Mercado, the newly elected mayor of San Pedro City, defeated Aaron Cataquiz, son of current mayor Lourdes Cataquiz. Mercado's running mate Ina Olivarez will lead the new council as the city's vice mayor.

Meanwhile, Ann Matibag, who currently serves as the first district's first district representative in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan, will serve as the city's first representative in Congress.

Dennis Hain won as the new mayor of Cabuyao city against incumbent Rommel Gecolea.

In Calamba City, Roseller “Ross” Rizal and Angelito Lazaro are the new mayor and vice mayor after they garnered more votes against their rivals Joey Chipeco and Rajay Lajara. With the promise of ‘CALAMBAGO,’ Rizal and Lazaro ended the long tenure of the Chipecos in the city.

Meanwhile, Cha Hernandez-Alcantara will serve as the city's new representative in Congress. Hernandez-Alcantara garnered 113,130 votes against its rival Mayor Justin Chipeco with 105,723 and Emer Panganiban with 6,981 votes.

New leadership is also expected in Los Baños after Anthony “Ton” Genuino won as the new mayor, while his running mate Josephine Sumangil Evangelista was elected vice mayor.

The same is expected in Pagsanjan after Cezar Areza was elected mayor against incumbent mayor Peter Casius Trinidad and other rivals Girlie Ejercito and Eliezer Gojas.

According to Comelec data, 1,630,386 voters out of 2,045,687 registered voters in Laguna province participated in the 2022 elections.
