INFANTA, Quezon — Nine (9) members of the terrorist group New People's Army (NPA) recently surrendered to the government after voluntarily surrendering to the 1st Infantry "Always First" Battalion in Brgy Tongohin in Infanta, Quezon.

The surrendered rebels are members of the Guerrilla Movement (KLG) NARCISO of Sub-Regional Military Area 4A (SRMA 4A) of the Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC), which operates in Northern Quezon.

They also surrendered high-caliber weapons, including an M16 assault rifle with two magazines and 58 bullets, a shotgun and three bullets, an M1 Garand rifle and ten bullets, and a caliber.45 pistol with one magazine and eight bullets.

Based on the narrative of the surrendered rebels, the experienced hardship, fear, hunger, and harmful activities of the movement pushed them to leave the terrorist group.

According to Lieutenant Colonel Danilo V. Escandor of the 1IB, the hardship experienced by the NPA members pushed them to surrender to the government.

“Ang tuloy-tuloy na pagsuko ng mga teroristang CPP-NPA-NDF sa ating pamahalaan ay patunay lamang sa mga kahirapang kanilang nararanasan sa terorismong grupo at sa patuloy na paghina ng kanilang pwersa,” said Escandor.

In addition, they continue to call on the remaining rebels to surrender, abandon the armed struggle and accept the benefits of the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP) of the NTF-ELCAC and the government.

Escandor also stated that they would strengthen their collaboration with the Municipal Task Force-End Local Communist Armed Conflict (MTF-ELCAC) in the towns of Real, Infanta, and General Nakar to eliminate and encourage the remaining members to surrender to the government and begin a new life. (with report from the Philippine Army)
