BATANGAS CITY - Governor Hermilando “Dodo” Mandanas actively attended and participated in the Culminating Activity held for the celebration of the Province of Batangas during Elderly Filipino Week recently at the Provincial Auditorium, Capitol Compound, Batangas City.

Elderly Filipino Week is commemorated every October 1 to 7 by Proclamation No. 470, issued by then-President Fidel Ramos on September 26, 1994. The proclamation establishes the Executive Department’s obligation, via the Department of Social Welfare and Development, to implement a social welfare program supporting the well-being of the elderly.

Older Filipinos are valuable members of society who require assistance and protection to live productive and happy lives. The annual celebration of Elderly Filipino Week highlights the contributions of senior citizens to the country.

The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the Provincial Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (POSCA) led the program, with participation from several members of Sangguniang Panlalawigan, spearheaded by Acting Vice Governor and 5th District Senior Board Member Claudette Ambida.

A highlight of the celebration was the recognition of the 15 Barangay Presidents of the Senior Citizens Associations who served for more than nine (9) years in their respective towns.

The senior citizens also showed their style in the Folk Dance Competition, where representatives from the six districts of Batangas Province competed in the traditional Subli dance.

In the message of Governor DoDo Mandanas, he emphasized that the provincial government truly recognizes and appreciates senior citizens who set an example and pave the way for a bright future for the youth.

PSWDO Department Head, Ms. Jocelyn Montalbo, 5th District Senior Board Member and Sangguniang Panlalawigan Chairperson of the Committee on Senior Citizens Claudette Ambida-Alday, and 1st District Board Member Carlo Roman G. Rosales Jr joined the celebration.
