BATANGAS CITY - 30 people from barangay San Isidro who are members of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), barangay nutrition scholars (BNS), barangay health workers (BHW), senior citizens, and people with comorbidities attended the Nutrition Symposium on Non-Communicable Diseases recently held by the Nutrition Division of the City Health Office (CHO).

The goal of the symposium was to teach people how important good nutrition is in preventing non-communicable diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.

The attendees were able to learn about the different types of non-communicable diseases and their risk factors, as well as the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

The symposium also gave people a chance to ask questions and clear up any misunderstandings they might have had about nutrition and chronic diseases.

The CHO also gave free health checks and consultations to the people who came to help find and treat these diseases as soon as possible.

Nurse II Maricel Contreras talked about chronic diseases like heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, and diabetes. Nutrition Officer Eva Mercado talked about how nutritional care can help prevent noncommunicable diseases like heart disease, cancer, and chronic lung disease.

Contreras says that part of their cancer-prevention program includes informing people about the diseases listed above and emphasizing that the symptoms of these diseases should not be ignored.

She also recommended that women get a pap smear as well as a visual inspection with an acetic acid (VIA) test. This is because these tests can detect complications in the uterus, particularly in the cervix, early and immediately.

The CHO offers VIA testing free of charge. CHO hopes that women in the city will participate in the program so that they understand the importance of early detection of diseases. (PIO Batangas City).
