LUCENA CITY - The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) brought together the first Regional Unified Communications (UniComm) Assembly IV-A in Quezon Province, which aimed to foster collaboration among media practitioners, information officers from government agencies, and other stakeholders.

The assembly that was held on December 11, 2023, sought to address the need for a unified approach to communications in order to enhance public information dissemination and promote effective messaging strategies.

According to Ma. Cristina Azardon, Regional Director of PIA, UniComm Assembly is established because they need to aligns their messages with those of the national government and ensure that consistent and accurate information reaches the public at the regional, provincial, and municipal levels.

Azardon said this is for government programs, policies, and other employment issues in the communities to be aligned and transmitted effectively to the public. The UniComm Assembly aims to establish a collaborative platform where government agencies, media organizations, and other stakeholders can coordinate their communication efforts, share resources, and streamline messaging strategies.

Fostering a unified approach to communications, the assembly seeks to minimize confusion, eliminate misinformation, and ultimately strengthen public trust in government initiatives. They can also identify and address any gaps or inconsistencies in communication efforts, ultimately improving public trust and understanding.

In a statement, Quezon Governor Angelina Tan emphasized the importance of information sharing between the president's communication team, ensuring only truthful, factual, and credible information for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s national leadership at the local government level.

Governor Tan highlighted that accurate and reliable communication is crucial to ensuring effective governance and fostering a sense of transparency among the public. The government can work toward a more informed and engaged citizenry by establishing a strong communication network at both the national and local levels.

Bagong Pilipinas, the administration's brand, was also introduced to the public by Asec. Patricia Kayle Martin, Assistant Secretary for Digital Media and Communications, as a symbol of the government's commitment to progress and positive change.

Martin stressed that Bagong Pilipinas is not just a branding strategy but a representation of the government's dedication to improving the lives of Filipinos. Their goal is to promote it through open and transparent communication channels, with the help of the local media and communications officers from various government agencies, to work together to ensure that the message of Bagong Pilipinas reaches every corner of the country, creating awareness and fostering a sense of unity among Filipinos.

In addition, Asec. Faith De Guia, Director III for Digital Media and Communications, says that the delivery of messages requires careful consideration and thoughtful messaging. This is because the government understands the impact that their communication can have on the public's perception and understanding of the issue at hand.

She also said the media is crucial and balance is key when delivering messages, as it is important to provide accurate information while also addressing any concerns or doubts that the public may have about the government's actions or policies.

Meanwhile according to Asec. Katherin Chloe De Castro, Deputy Director General of PIA, this event represents a significant set of commitments to show the Filipino people that by establishing regional assemblies, we are impowering local units and stakeholders to engage their communities in an even more targeted and effective manner.

She also said the UniComm would be a catalyst for positive change, empowering communities and centering the bond between the government and people, ultimately leading to more inclusive and participatory governance.

As Bagong Pilipinas changes in shaping communications and information dissemination, UniComm aims to bridge the gap between the government and the people by providing a platform for open dialogue and transparent communication.

President Marcos' flagship program, Bagong Pilipinas, aims to revitalize the country's governance while also fostering sustainable development. It is also the largest service caravan in the country, with the goal of offering major government services to underprivileged Filipinos in various towns across the country.
