Inauguration of new monument to Jose Rizal in Sariaya

SARIAYA, Quezon - On Rizal Day, which is celebrated every December 30th, the people of Sariaya gathered to honor the life and legacy of Jose Rizal by unveiling a magnificent monument dedicated to him. The inauguration was a momentous occasion filled with pride and admiration for the national hero, as locals and visitors alike paid their respects to his significant contributions to Philippine history.

It was led by the Sariaya Tourism Council under the leadership of EA Randy Tronila, Chief Tourism Operations Officer, along with members of Herencia Sariaya, Knights of Columbus, Sariaya Eagles Club, CSTC Lyre Band, and Sariaya Community Rondalla (SCR).



The inauguration of the Jose Rizal Monument, also known as the Glorita Centenary Countdown or the beginning of the 100th year since they were built here in our town, will be held in the year 2024, marking a century of honoring the legacy of Jose Rizal in Sariaya.

Tronila expressed his gratitude to all the organizations and individuals who participated in the event, emphasizing the importance of preserving and promoting Philippine history for future generations.

He also mentioned that plans are already underway to organize more activities and initiatives leading up to the centennial celebration in 2024, ensuring that Jose Rizal's legacy continues to inspire and educate people about the country's rich heritage.

During the inagural ceremony, Prof. Gloria Melencio, Senior Lecturer at the University of the Philippines, shared the important role played by the Sariyayans in the heroism and achievement of freedom and independence of Filipinos from foreigners.

She gave tribute and recognition to Gat Jose Rizal, along with his brother Paciano Rizal and unidentified heroes who fought for the country's independence. Prof. Melencio emphasized the need to honor and remember these unsung heroes, as their contributions have shaped the nation's history and continue to inspire future generations.

Meanwhile, Dr. Emman Lacandola and Ronan Lacandola Nantes, Acting Municipal Administrator/SPIO, are some of the "direct descendants" of those who were part of the construction of the Jose Rizal Monument and the Glorita in Sariaya, Quezon.

They have expressed their pride in their ancestors' involvement in these historical landmarks and highlighted the importance of preserving and promoting the legacy of these national heroes.
