LUCENA CITY, Quezon - The Quezon Provincial Police Office (QPPO), led by Provincial Director P/Col. Ruben B Lacuesta, conducted a traditional New Year's call to Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan at the Provincial Capitol on January 30, 2025. This annual tradition serves as a platform to strengthen ties and reaffirm the shared commitment to the safety and well-being of Quezon Province.

The New Year's Call, deeply rooted in the PNP's culture, provides an opportunity for officers to connect with their leaders and reinforce the values of camaraderie and esprit de corps. This year's visit underscored the vital partnership between the provincial government and the police force in maintaining peace and order, a cornerstone for the province's ongoing growth and development.

During the visit, P/Col. Lacuesta extended his New Year's greetings and presented a comprehensive report on the QPPO's achievements in the past year. He highlighted the significant decrease in crime rate and the success of various operations against criminal activities, demonstrating the effectiveness of the police force's strategies and dedication.

P/Col. Lacuesta emphasized the PNP's operational focus on combating crime and illegal drugs, acknowledging the crucial role of community support and stakeholder engagement in achieving these successes. He outlined his strategic guidance for the year ahead, addressing the command group, directorial staff, and provincial and city directors, urging them to optimize resources and strive for excellence in their service.

"We are in this together and I am optimistic that we will realize all our plans and programs this year with more deliberate and calibrated actions primed with excellence, optimizing the utilization of our human, money and material resources available," Lacuesta stated, reinforcing his confidence in the QPPO's capabilities and commitment.

Looking ahead, he added, "All that we have achieved last year were done with capabilities that still reside within our organization. And this year, we will aim for greater heights in our accomplishment as we approach it together as a stronger force making sure our communities are safer and feeling safer throughout 2024."

Governor Tan expressed her gratitude for the tireless efforts and sacrifices of the Quezon PNP. Recognizing the ongoing challenges, she stressed the need for continuous collaboration between the provincial government and law enforcement agencies to ensure the safety and security of all Quezonians.

"Our commitment to a safer and more progressive Quezon remains steadfast. I commend the QPPO for their dedication, and rest assured that our local government will continue to support initiatives that enhance peace and order," Governor Tan affirmed.

The New Year's Call also provided a valuable opportunity to discuss future initiatives and strategies for 2025. The discussions focused on key areas such as crime prevention, anti-illegal drug operations, disaster preparedness, and strengthening community relations.

Governor Tan acknowledged the challenges faced by the police force, particularly the limitations posed by the Local Government Code and the disparity in resource allocation between local and national levels. She highlighted the need for resourcefulness and innovation in overcoming these obstacles.

"In totality, how you keep the community safe and the challenges you face, with the Local Government Code supporting the disparity of the local and national in implementing policies and programs, the challenge is what to do with the lack of funds. The situation of the police and teachers are the same, needing to improve. Despite these challenges, peace and order must be maintained," the Governor acknowledged.

She further emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts and strategic resource management, stating, "Being resourceful and exploring innovative solutions will be key to overcoming these obstacles and continuing to serve our community effectively. We must work together, finding new ways to maximize our resources and ensure that our police force and educators have the support they need to perform their duties. This also includes providing the necessary resources and support to ensure peaceful and orderly elections in the coming years."

The New Year's call served as a powerful reminder of the strong partnership between the QPPO and the provincial government. Both entities pledged to continue their collaborative efforts in building a safer and more peaceful Quezon Province, expressing confidence in the continued progress and well-being of the community.
