TAYABAS CITY, Quezon - Anthony ‘Kuya Piwa’ Lim outrises his opponent, incumbent Mayor Lovely Reynoso-Pontioso, in Monday's election, May 12, 2025, delivering a significant electoral upset in Tayabas City. The official results from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) confirmed Lim's commanding victory, securing 26,176 votes against Reynoso-Pontioso's 22,982 – a margin exceeding 3,000 votes.

Lim, a prominent businessman who owns a production equipment import company and is a cockfighting enthusiast, successfully defeated the incumbent mayor by running a campaign that resonated with voters. His platform, which emphasized local engagement and addressed perceived shortcomings in the previous administration, appealed to residents seeking a fresh approach to city governance.

But a long-time and vocal ally of Cong. Mark Enverga, Lim’s established political connections and strong local campaign, highlighting grassroots development and direct engagement, allowed him to easily defeat Pontioso. He is now on pace to his first term as mayor of Tayabas City, entering office with a clear mandate for change and a strong support base.

Immediately after the local election commission's proclamation of his victory on the said elections, the mayor-elect reached out to the people of Tayabas City on Facebook. In his post, he thanked the residents of Tayabas City who voted for him, noting that the over 45,000 votes demonstrated strong support for his plans to improve local infrastructure and create more jobs in the city.

"Maraming salamat po, mga kababayan kong Tayabasin. Nanaig ang tinig ng bawat Tayabasin na gustong magkaroon ng isang Lungsod na Inyong Maipagmamalaki. Isang Lungsod ng Tayabas na inklusibo ang pag-unlad, mayroong tapat na paglilingkod, at isang punong lungsod na may pananagutan at isang salita." he said.

He vow to repay their support through the dedicated delivery of honest and modern services that would benefit every resident. Underscoring a commitment to swift action, the incoming administration also promptly signaled the commencement of its agenda for progress, indicating a readiness to begin implementing their vision for the city.

Meanwhile in the vice mayoral polls, incumbent Rosauro Dalida secured a significant re-election victory, garnering over 10,000 more votes than his competitor, Kuya Nick Abesamis. This substantial win, achieved by a large majority, indicates the continued confidence and support of the Tayabas City electorate in Dalida's leadership.

The newly elected Tayabas City Council members, who will join Lim and Dalida in shaping the city's future, include Dino Romero, Ana Obispo, Elsa Rubio, Manny Maraig, Melo Cabarrubias, Jerry Caagbay, Luz Cuadra, Jerry Talaga, Riza Llaneta, and Phaula Nadres. The official proclamation marks the beginning of a new era for Tayabas City under the leadership of Mayor-elect Lim.
