LUCENA CITY, Quezon – To provide top-tier rabies prevention and animal bite management, the Quezon Provincial Health Office (QPHO) – Infectious Disease Unit is currently engaged in an extensive assessment of animal bite treatment centers throughout the province. This initiative is a crucial part of the process for these facilities to receive Department of Health (DOH) Certification.
The comprehensive evaluations, which began in the second quarter of this year (April to June) and are still underway, aim to ensure that each facility adheres to the stringent standards set by the DOH. These standards are in place to guarantee proper, safe, and effective services throughout Quezon Province.
Facilities undergoing assessment include both government and private health institutions. Specifically, these are the Mauban Primary Care Facility, the Rural Health Units (RHUs) of Patnanungan, Jomalig, and Padre Burgos, and the Quezon Provincial Hospital Network-Unisan. In addition, the private sector's Dr. Care Tayabas Animal Bite Center and Dr. Care Tiaong Animal Bite Center are also being rigorously evaluated.
In light of a continuous rise in animal bite cases, the QPHO is issuing a stern reminder to all residents: don't hesitate to consult the nearest DOH Certified ABTC/ABC immediately if bitten or scratched by an animal. Acting quickly can save lives by ensuring timely post-exposure prophylaxis, which is critical in preventing the deadly rabies virus from taking hold.
"Rabies is 100% fatal, but it's also 100% preventable with the right knowledge, prompt consultation, and complete vaccination," emphasized QPHO. "This ongoing assessment is a vital step in ensuring that adequate, proper, and safe services are available to all citizens in Quezon Province.|
