LUCENA CITY, Quezon – After a year-long effort to bring public services to every corner of the city, the Lucena City Government recently concluded its "People's Day 2025" program. This city-wide initiative delivered on the administration's promise to make government services more accessible to all residents, reaching its final two barangays, Mayao Silangan and Mayao Kanluran.

The annual "People's Day" is a hallmark event for Lucena City residents, designed to foster a strong bond between the government and its people. This year's program was a comprehensive, barangay-level outreach initiative designed to ensure that all citizens, especially those in remote areas, have direct access to critical government services and assistance.

In his closing remarks, Mayor Alcala delivered a clear message of continuity: "The program's successful implementation, which was a cornerstone of the city's annual budget, sets a precedent for similar public service initiatives. We will not stop here. This is a promise to our people that our government's services will not only be accessible, but will be delivered with compassion and dedication to every household in Lucena."

According to the local government of Lucena City the said event has a dual purpose: to provide vital services and to foster a strong sense of community. It serves as a key platform for residents to engage directly with city officials, ensuring that the government remains transparent and responsive to the needs of its people.

"This tradition has evolved over the years, becoming a cornerstone of the administration's commitment to compassionate and inclusive governance. This is our way of bridging the gap between the city government and the people we serve. It's about making sure our constituents feel heard and valued, because we believe that a strong community is built on trust and open dialogue," Mayor Alcala added.

A report from the city's Social Welfare and Development Office revealed that the program served an estimated 25,000 residents across the 33 barangays. Among the most widely availed services were free medical and dental check-ups, legal aid consultations, and the distribution of livelihood starter kits. The Public Employment Service Office also contributed by conducting job fairs that connected hundreds of applicants with local employers.

The initiative received full support from key city officials, including Vice Mayor Roderick Alcala and City Budget Officer Rosalina Castillo, who served as the Activity Chairperson. The success of the program was a result of a collaborative effort involving numerous city departments, including the Special Project Unit, City Health, City Legal, City Veterinarian, City Agriculturist, City General Services, OSCA, CDRRMO, CSWDO, PESO, DLL-LMSTC, LYDO and PNP Lucena.
