TIAONG,Quezon – With the rainy season drawing near, the local government of Tiaong has launched its flood preparedness operations. At the forefront of the effort is Mayor Vincent RJ Mea, who personally led crews on September 23 to begin declogging and cleaning the town’s drainage canals.

This wide-scale effort will cover key waterways across all barangays, a critical component of the town's overall strategy to ensure proper water flow and mitigate the risk of flooding in vulnerable areas. The operation started at the Municipal Hall and extended for about two kilometers to the Puregold Highway section.

Over 50 personnel from the City Engineering and Environment offices were deployed, using heavy equipment and manual labor. Crews have already removed massive canal blockages and collected more than three tons of non-biodegradable waste.

"This is a critical first phase of our long-term flood mitigation strategy by making sure our drainage systems are clear now, we’re setting a foundation for future improvements. This is our way of making sure we can handle the large volume of water when the heavy rains come." Mayor Mea said.

The mayor added that the city has been very active in addressing the long-standing challenge of waste management, which contributes to flooding. Improper waste disposal and a lack of public awareness often cause plastics and other debris to end up in waterways.

"This is more than just a clean-up, we want to give our residents peace of mind knowing that we are ready for whatever the weather brings. So, while we are doing our part, we are also asking for everyone's cooperation. Proper waste disposal is everyone’s responsibility." he said.

The operation highlights the local government's proactive approach. To sustain these efforts, residents are encouraged to cooperate by properly disposing of their waste, helping to keep the drainage systems clean and efficient for the long term.
