SARIAYA, Quezon - A major step in promoting women’s health was recently taken as women in Sariaya joined the local government’s free family planning program at the town’s health center. The province’s health office, in partnership with the Municipal Government of Sariaya, spearheaded the program to bring essential family planning services directly to residents.
Health workers provided advice on family health and planning, making it easier for both men and women to access help. Residents learned about safe and effective ways to plan their families through individual meetings and demonstrations by trained medical staff.
The province’s health office said this outreach is part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness about family planning and ensure services reach even remote areas. The program also supports the Department of Health’s goal of helping couples make informed choices about their families.
Services included personal consultations, distribution of different types of birth control pills, condoms, lubricants, and birth control implant placement or removal for women. Men could also receive free advice on a minor procedure to prevent pregnancy, promoting shared responsibility in family planning.
Citing a government health study, the agency noted that most people who do not use condoms also tend to avoid other ways to prevent pregnancy. The study found that fear of side effects, like weight gain or irregular periods, often keeps people from using these family planning methods.
To address this concern, the agency has intensified efforts to educate the public on the importance of family planning and its benefits to the overall health and stability of families. It emphasized that government family planning services are open and available to everyone, regardless of gender or status, and encouraged people to visit local health centers for advice and support.
