ALABAT, Quezon - Facing increasing pressure to improve waste services and meet environmental rules, Alabat is in the process of finalizing its 10-Year Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). The plan will guide waste management in the municipality over the next decade and shape collection practices, facility operations, and barangay-level compliance.
Final presentation and endorsement are nearing for the SWMP, which will serve as the municipality’s main guide for waste reduction, collection, and facility management. Among the measures included is the geotagging of all Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs), to be carried out at the barangay level.
Municipal officials reviewed the draft SWMP with Task Force Alabat and relevant municipal offices to assess technical soundness, timelines, and consistency with existing waste management policies. The review was conducted ahead of the plan’s scheduled presentation to the Sangguniang Bayan later this month, prior to formal endorsement.
The final presentation of the 10-Year SWMP is set for the last week of March, after which it will be taken up by the Sangguniang Bayan for approval. Once adopted, the plan will serve as the municipality’s primary reference for addressing waste reduction, collection, and compliance requirements.
Task Force Alabat will also conduct barangay-level ocular inspections to check facility conditions and compliance with waste management rules. Results will guide corrective action and coordination with barangay officials, with inspections carried out alongside barangay meetings for direct discussion with local leaders.
Implementation of the measures will be coordinated through the municipal Solid Waste Management Board, which is scheduled to meet on February 12. The meeting will take up next steps related to policy coordination and the rollout of the 10-year plan.
