TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon — Strengthening data protection has become a priority for local governments amid growing concerns over personal information security. The Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tagkawayan officially registered with the National Privacy Commission.

The National Privacy Commission enforces the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and monitors compliance among public and private institutions nationwide. The Commission requires covered entities to register their data processing systems and designated data protection officers.

The registration complies with the requirements of the Data Privacy Act of 2012 and records the municipality’s participation in the national data protection framework. It places the local government’s data processing activities under the regulatory oversight of the Commission.

The municipal government completed all required documents mandated under Republic Act No. 10173, fulfilling national compliance requirements. The law requires government offices and private entities that collect and use personal information to implement proper safeguards to protect people’s privacy rights.

As part of the compliance process, LGU Tagkawayan registered its designated Data Protection Officer (DPO) and its data processing systems to ensure the lawful and secure handling of personal information. These registrations form part of the documentation required under the Commission’s rules.

Mayor Carlo Elezar addressed municipal officials and employees during the regular flag-raising ceremony at the Municipal Hall. He spoke about the importance of complying with national data protection standards and safeguarding residents’ personal information.

“Responsibilidad po ng ating lokal na pamahalaan na tiyakin na ligtas at maayos ang paghawak ng personal na impormasyon ng ating mga kababayan,” Mayor Carlo Elezar said. “Ang pagsunod natin sa Data Privacy Act ay hindi lamang pagsunod sa batas kundi pagpapakita rin ng respeto sa karapatan ng bawat mamamayan.”

The registration forms part of the municipality’s broader compliance efforts under existing government regulations on data protection. It indicates that the local government has established procedures for managing and protecting public information in accordance with national standards.
