SARIAYA, Quezon — Plans to modernize the public market of Sariaya are now in their initial phase, following the municipality’s approved development plans. The project aims to improve safety, sanitation, and day-to-day operations at the existing market.

Mayor Marivic T. Gayeta said the initiative has officially entered the preparation stage and is being carried out to ensure an orderly and law-compliant redevelopment of the public market. She said the local government is taking a step-by-step approach to avoid disruptions, particularly for vendors and daily market operations.

“Bilang pagtalima sa Comprehensive Development Plan ng Bayan ng Sariaya at bahagi ng ating Executive–Legislative Agenda, ang pagsasaayos at pagpapaunlad ng Pamilihang Bayan ay opisyal nang nasa paunang yugto ng paghahanda,” pahayag ni Gayeta. The statement underscores that the project is aligned with the municipality’s approved planning direction.

Public Market Administrator Gil L. Sales said initial concepts and preparatory work have been completed on the executive side to serve as the basis for a modern market design. The proposal focuses on improving basic facilities, safety, and layout to address issues affecting access, cleanliness, and daily market operations.

“The proposed design seeks to better serve both vendors and consumers by improving movement inside the market and access to essential services,” Sales said. “It also aims to create a more orderly and comfortable environment for market users, making daily transactions safer and more convenient.”

Under the plan, the redeveloped public market will include dedicated parking areas, an organized public transport terminal, and wider walkways for shoppers. The upgrades are intended to ease congestion and improve overall accessibility, especially during peak market hours.

Environmental and sanitation improvements are included in the proposal, such as a Sewage Treatment Plant and improved drainage systems. The measures are intended to help protect public health and nearby areas, particularly during periods of heavy market activity and the rainy season.

Measures related to the project are currently under review by the Committee En Banc to provide the necessary legal basis for implementation. Public consultation will continue as the process moves forward, with stakeholder input considered during planning.

Sales said his office remains open to questions and suggestions from the public, adding that feedback will help guide the planning process. He encouraged stakeholders to take part in consultations to ensure their concerns and suggestions are properly considered.
