LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Inside the art gallery of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) of Quezon at the Governor’s Mansion Compound, walls now display stories told through color, texture, and form as women artists take center stage for National Women’s Month 2026. A Women in Art Exhibition, which opened on March 9, highlights the creativity and artistic voices of women while recognizing their role in shaping culture and inspiring communities.
More than a display of paintings and visual pieces, the exhibition presents art as a voice that reflects the experiences and stories of women. It carries the theme “Hindi Babae Lang” or Not Just a Woman, emphasizing that women are creators, storytellers, and agents of change beyond traditional roles in society.
Hosted by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Quezon in collaboration with the Women in Art group, the exhibition brings together artists from different communities who share their stories through creative expression. The activity also aims to encourage wider appreciation of women’s contributions to art, culture, and community life.
The opening ceremony gathered artists, organizers, and supporters at the Governor’s Mansion Compound in Lucena City to mark the start of the exhibit. The event also brought together participating artists who shared their unique stories, ideas, and creative expressions through visual art.
Featured in the SP Quezon art gallery are various artworks created by women artists from different towns of Quezon Province. The exhibit also includes works from artists across the CALABARZON region who present their stories and creative expressions through art.
The artworks highlight stories of resilience, identity, and the enduring creativity of women through different artistic forms. Each piece reflects how women are not only defined by roles in society but also serve as powerful voices, storytellers, and agents of change.
The powerful themes reflected in the artworks are made possible through the collaborative efforts of women artists who came together to support and showcase one another’s creative voices. Their shared commitment to celebrating women’s stories and ideas is represented through the collective known as Women in Art.
The exhibit is presented by Women in Art, a group of women artists composed of visual artists, poets, photographers, and other artists from Quezon and nearby regions. The collective aims to provide a platform where women artists can share their talents and stories through different forms of artistic expression.
Participating artists include Maria Lourdes Abulencia, Teena M. Octaviano, Marlene Ayen Galit, Ancilla Marie Concepcion, Atty. Cryz Guese Rosales, Rainelda Alva Eroles, Elizabeth Esguerra Castillo, Rose Abordo O’Hara, Maria Frances Reyes, and Donna Rose Banzon, who showcased their artworks during the Women in Art Exhibition at the SP Quezon art gallery in Lucena City. Their works reflect different artistic styles and creative inspirations while highlighting the diverse experiences, identities, and stories of women in society.
Other participating artists include Veronica T. Suministrado, Jerlene Mortega, Siningning Alyssa Reynales, Pleng Lado, Meann L. Gandia, Gemareah Reynoso, Liv Evensen, and Juliana Ruggiero, who also presented their artistic creations as part of the exhibit. Their artworks further highlight the strength, resilience, and enduring creativity of women expressed through different forms of visual storytelling.
Women in Art group led by Elizabeth Esguerra Castillo said the exhibition aims to celebrate the creativity, strength, and inspiring voices of women through art. The activity also provides a platform for women artists to share their talents while encouraging greater appreciation for women’s contributions to culture.
The Women in Art Exhibition will remain open to the public from March 9 until April 9, 2026 at the Governor’s Mansion Compound in Lucena City. Visitors are invited to view artworks that reflect stories, inspirations, and experiences drawn from the lives of women artists.
