CATANAUAN, Quezon – Around 300 residents from Barangays Madulao and San Isidro received free chest X-ray services through a two-day community health activity conducted in the municipality. Access to early detection of possible lung diseases improved, especially for cases often left unchecked due to cost and limited access to testing services.
In partnership with Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) and local health workers, the activity delivered on-site chest X-ray screening using a mobile unit set up within the barangays. The initiative formed part of ongoing efforts to expand access to preventive healthcare services at the community level.
The screenings focused on detecting lung diseases and other health conditions that may not be immediately seen without proper testing. Health teams processed patients on-site, allowing them to complete screening procedures without traveling to hospitals or testing centers.
Screenings like this play a key role in early disease detection, particularly tuberculosis, allowing early treatment and helping reduce the spread of infection in communities. Health personnel reviewed initial results and prepared referrals for patients needing further check-ups at local health centers.
The activity reached individuals with limited access to healthcare services, helping reduce the cost of medical tests and routine check-ups. Records from the program showed a total of 300 patients served across the two barangays.
Health workers also provided basic information on tuberculosis and other lung diseases while residents waited for their results during the activity. They explained symptoms, how the disease spreads, and the importance of seeking follow-up care when needed.
The program forms part of broader local health efforts aimed at strengthening preventive care and early detection of diseases. Similar screening activities are expected to continue in other barangays to expand access to essential health services.
