LUCENA CITY, Quezon - Same-day tourist arrivals in Quezon Province reached 99,629 on April 1, 2026 (Holy Wednesday), marking a strong start to the Lenten season while showing steady travel demand across religious sites and coastal destinations. The count reflects a continuous flow of visitors moving through key areas across multiple towns in the province.

The data was based on partial reports submitted by local government units (LGUs) through their tourism officers, providing an initial snapshot of visitor activity during the early part of Holy Week. These figures were gathered and consolidated by the Quezon Provincial Tourism Office as of April 2, 2026, 5:00 PM.

The early rise in arrivals comes as the province carries out a planned effort to manage Holy Week activities, focusing on organization, safety, and visitor movement across destinations. Local governments and tourism officers are coordinating on the ground to keep routes clear while ensuring that tourist flow remains steady and manageable.

Visitor movement continues to build as more travelers arrive ahead of peak Holy Week days, with numbers expected to increase further in the coming days. The upward trend is supported by earlier preparations that improved site readiness while strengthening safety measures across key locations.

The Provincial Government of Quezon strengthened preparations after its 2025 assessment, addressing gaps in tourist management and public safety while preparing towns for increased visitor arrivals. Through the Quezon Provincial Tourism Office, support and assistance were delivered to municipalities expecting large crowds during the Holy Week period.

Guidelines for tourism activities were issued to local government units to ensure consistent implementation across different municipalities and destinations. Directional signages were also installed in key areas to guide tourists while easing movement along busy routes.

Among the highest recorded arrivals, Dolores, Quezon reported 42,857 visitors while Infanta, Quezon logged 23,500, reflecting strong turnout in major destinations. Gumaca, Quezon and Real, Quezon followed with 8,745 and 6,955 arrivals, respectively, showing continued visitor presence in coastal and central areas.

Other municipalities also contributed to the overall figures, including Atimonan, Quezon with 4,706 and San Andres, Quezon with 2,024, reflecting steady arrivals in additional towns. Additional counts were recorded in Alabat, Quezon, Guinayangan, Quezon, Sampaloc, Quezon, and Quezon, Quezon, showing visitors spread across multiple areas in the province.

The recorded turnout underscores the province’s role as a key destination during Holy Week, drawing both pilgrims and leisure travelers to different sites. The mix of faith-based and coastal travel continues to shape visitor movement across towns during the observance.

On-site assessments began on April 1 and continued through Maundy Thursday to check the condition and readiness of destinations across multiple municipalities. Areas covered include Perez, Quezon, Buenavista, Quezon, Lopez, Quezon, Plaridel, Quezon, and Unisan, Quezon.

The ongoing evaluation aims to identify areas for improvement while ensuring visitor safety across destinations during the busy travel period. Preparations continue as arrivals build toward the peak days of Holy Week across the province.
