LUCBAN, Quezon - The Pahiyas Festival of Lucban is featured in the fifth release under the P100 Philippine Festivals Commemorative Coin Series of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas. The commemorative coin highlights the annual harvest celebration honoring San Isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers.
Each coin will be sold for ₱5,000 beginning May 21 through the BSP Online Store, where buyers can purchase the limited commemorative release online. The commemorative coin also carries a legal tender value of ₱100 as part of the BSP’s Philippine Festivals Coin Series.
Lucban Tourism Officer Maria Jenifer Babat said the inclusion of the Pahiyas Festival in the BSP commemorative coin series is a major recognition for the town of Lucban. She said the commemorative release highlights the cultural importance of one of Quezon Province’s best-known festivals.
“Malaking karangalan para sa Lucban na mapabilang ang Pahiyas Festival sa commemorative coin series ng BSP,” Babat said. “Ipinapakita nito ang pagkilala sa kultura, tradisyon, at kasaysayan ng aming bayan.”
Babat also said the commemorative coin may help attract more tourists and visitors to Lucban during the annual Pahiyas celebration. She said the additional national recognition could help strengthen local tourism and economic activity in the town.
“Umaasa kami na mas marami pang turista ang bibisita sa Lucban dahil sa dagdag na pagkilala sa Pahiyas Festival,” Babat said. “Malaking tulong ito sa pagpapalakas ng turismo at kabuhayan ng lokal na komunidad.”
The commemorative release aims to promote awareness of Philippine festivals while recognizing the cultural heritage of local communities. The limited-edition release also gives national recognition to one of Quezon Province’s most popular tourism events.
The coin forms part of the BSP’s “Pista sa Pilipinas” Commemorative Coin Series featuring 12 silver coins inspired by major Filipino festivals and cultural traditions. The series aims to showcase the country’s rich heritage through festivals known for their history, artistry, and community celebrations.
The Pahiyas Festival is widely known for houses decorated with colorful kiping, agricultural products, and local handicrafts during the yearly thanksgiving celebration in Lucban. Thousands of visitors visit the town every May to witness decorated homes, street festivities, and cultural activities linked to the harvest tradition.
