TIAONG, Quezon – What was once a natural divide between Barangay Lalig and Poblacion 2 now serves as a link between the two communities following the completion of a crossing over the river. A newly completed hanging bridge connecting the two barangays was formally opened on June 2 under the leadership of Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea.

According to the Municipal Government of Tiaong, the bridge is expected to serve as an access route for residents traveling between the two communities. The crossing is intended to improve mobility and provide a safer passage across the river.

Before the bridge was completed, the river separated portions of Barangay Lalig and neighboring Poblacion 2, requiring residents to use alternative routes to reach the other community. Local officials said the crossing provides a link that will support daily travel and access to services.

The bridge was inaugurated through a ribbon-cutting and blessing ceremony led by Mayor Mea. Barangay officials and residents from Lalig and Poblacion 2 joined the event marking the opening of the crossing.

In his message, Mea called on residents to help preserve the bridge and protect the surrounding environment. He said community participation is essential to ensure public infrastructure continues to benefit future generations.

"Sana naman po alagaan ninyo ito. Sana rin po walang magtatapon ng basura dito sa ating ilog para mapagliguan ulit at gumanda," Mea said.

The mayor also assured residents that the municipal government remains accessible to address community concerns and development needs. He encouraged them to work closely with barangay officials in identifying projects and services needed in their area.

"Kung ano man po yung mga pangangailangan ninyo, nasa munisipyo lang ako o kaya'y lumapit kayo sa inyong mga barangay officials. Makakaasa po kayo na marami pa tayong mga programang ibababa dito sa ating bayan," he said.

Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Father Edwin Baruelo led the blessing of the bridge. Residents and local officials later gathered for a community celebration marking the opening of the crossing.

During the inauguration, Mea urged residents to help preserve the bridge and keep the river free from waste. He said community participation is necessary to ensure the structure remains beneficial to future generations.
