LUCENA CITY, Quezon — Emergency equipment and lifesaving demonstrations took center stage as Quezon province brought its disaster preparedness campaign closer to the public. The Quezon Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office opened a static display at Pacific Mall Lucena on July 16 in observance of National Disaster Resilience Month.
PDRRMO head Dr. Melchor P. Avenilla Jr. led the activity to strengthen public awareness of disaster preparedness and emergency response. The exhibit showed residents how proper knowledge and readily available equipment could help protect lives during calamities.
Avenilla said the static display had a simple but important purpose of strengthening public confidence in the province’s disaster response capabilities. It sought to assure residents that emergency personnel and government agencies stood ready to respond when disasters strike.
The display featured first aid kits, fire extinguishers, life vests, rescue ropes, emergency go bags, flashlights and portable radios. Rescue personnel explained how each item supports evacuation, communication, medical assistance and other emergency operations.
Visitors received practical information on the proper safety measures to follow before, during and after a calamity. Personnel also demonstrated basic life support, first aid and other emergency procedures that residents could apply while awaiting professional responders.
The Philippine Army, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard and Rescue 8 joined the provincial disaster office in conducting the activity. Private groups and emergency equipment providers also participated in the campaign for safer and more resilient communities.
The QPDRRMO invited residents to visit the exhibit at the third floor of Pacific Mall Lucena until July 17. The activity encouraged Quezonians to strengthen household preparedness and take an active role in protecting their communities.
