LUCENA CITY, Quezon — One elderly resident died and 34 families were displaced after a fire destroyed 17 houses in Barangay Marketview, leaving survivors without shelter, essential belongings and other basic necessities. Mayor Mark Alcala recently visited the affected households to check their condition, speak with residents directly and determine their immediate concerns following the blaze.
A 72-year-old woman was found dead inside her home, according to information from the Bureau of Fire Protection. The fire reached first alarm at 4:09 p.m. and was declared extinguished at 5:38 p.m., while investigators continued determining its cause and assessing the extent of property damage.
Alcala said the visit allowed city officials to hear directly from affected residents and better understand the problems confronting each household after the fire. He said the city government would remain in contact with the families as they dealt with displacement, lost belongings and disrupted daily routines.
“Bumisita tayo sa mga pamilyang naapektuhan ng sunog sa Brgy. Marketview para kamustahin ang kanilang kalagayan at malaman ang kanilang immediate needs. Nakakalungkot ang nangyari sa ating mga kababayan,” Alcala said.
The mayor said the city’s response would be guided by conditions on the ground and by the specific concerns raised by affected residents. Officials are also looking at temporary shelter, basic necessities and other practical needs as families begin moving forward after the disaster.
“Patuloy nating aalamin ang kanilang mga pangangailangan at sisiguraduhing maibibigay ang kinakailangang assistance. Tutulungan natin sila habang unti-unti silang nagsisimulang makabangon mula sa nangyari,” Alcala said.
The fire left dozens of residents facing temporary displacement and the loss of homes, personal belongings and household essentials. City officials are continuing their assessment of affected families while investigators work to establish the cause of the blaze and the full extent of the damage.
