Alabat expands water reserves as Camagong project gains funding

ALABAT, Quezon — Building a stronger buffer against expected dry conditions has become a priority in Alabat, where the municipal government is targeting 200,000 liters of reserve water while preparing a new impounding facility in Barangay Camagong. The initiative combines 49,000 liters of committed container storage with a ₱5-million allocation for Phase 1 of the Camagong Water Impounding Project as part of the town’s broader water-security preparations.

The municipality has secured 19 units of 1,000-liter water containers from Norbert of Aquaculture and another 30 units of the same capacity from Alternergy, bringing total committed storage to 49,000 liters. Five Alternergy containers are intended for each covered barangay in the Poblacion area, including Camagong, while the municipality continues building toward its 200,000-liter reserve target.

Mayor Eizelle “Ays” M. Avellano-Canimo later announced that Alabat had been informed of a ₱5-million allocation through the office of Sen. Erwin Tulfo for the Camagong project. The funding is intended for the first phase of the planned water impounding facility, adding a permanent storage component to the municipality’s container-based preparations against possible shortages.

“Kanina ay nakatanggap tayo ng tawag mula sa Tanggapan ni Sen. Erwin Tulfo, sa pamamagitan ni Sir Jun upang ipabatid ang magandang balita na magkakaroon ang Bayan ng Alabat ng P5 Milyong pondo para sa Phase 1 ng Water Impounding Project, na magsisilbing karagdagang water impounding facility sa Brgy. Camagong,” Avellano-Canimo said.

The municipal government is continuing to seek support from individuals, groups and institutions as it expands water-storage capacity ahead of prolonged dry conditions. Pairing portable containers with the planned Camagong impounding facility gives Alabat both an immediate reserve and a longer-term measure for strengthening local water security.
