LUCENA CITY, Quezon (PIA)- The Quezon police provincial office's stern commitment to eradicate illegal drugs in the province pays off after reaching 111.03% in its intensified campaign, Project ‘Double Barrel Alpha’.

In a media fellowship held at the Eastern Premiere Cuisine in this city last January 27, PSSupt. Rhoderick C. Armamento, acting provincial director of QPPO, pointed out that the Double Barrel Alpha sets an effective and efficient imposed operation against illegal drugs as an extension and expansion version of the PNP anti-illegal drug campaign plan 'Double Barrel' focusing more on the arrests and/or accounting of high value target (HVT) personalities involved in illegal drugs as well as the clearing operations of all drug-affected areas.

According to QPPO, around 1,333 personalities allegedly involved in illegal drugs were arrested, 25 were killed in legitimate police operations while statistics on deaths under investigation (DUI) 33 incidents with 34 suspected drug personalities since the start of project double barrel covering the period from July 1, 2016 to January 25, 2017, .

Moreover, confiscated drugs include at 2,064.01239 grams of shabu with dangerous drugs board (DDB) value of P3,818,442.92 and 1,095.3624 grams of marijuana worth P60,244.93.

Police operatives also seized 69 firearms during these various operations on illegal drugs.

For the same period, a total of 13,981 houses were visited province-wide which resulted to 24,049 drugs personalities surrendered. The surrendered drug personalities gave their individual pledges of commitment and vowed to stop their illegal activities, reaffirming their support for the government’s campaign against illegal drugs, corruption and criminality.

Said personalities are now undergoing different reintegration programs facilitated by their respective local government units.

Meanwhile, the municipalities of Pitogo and Plaridel were recognized by PDEA as drug free municipalities in the province according to QPPO. (GG/ R. Orinday, PIA-Quezon with reports from PCI Elena N. Eleazar-QPPO)
