To ensure that Department of Education (DepEd) Order No. 16, s. 2016, or the Guidelines of the Implementation of the Mother Tongue-Based Multilingual Education (MTB-MLE), is properly implemented, the Bureau of Learning Delivery-Teaching and Learning Division (BLD-TLD) conducted the First National Conference on MTB-MLE on August 2-4 in Mariveles, Bataan.
With the theme, “Empowering Young Learners through MTB-MLE,” the national conference intended to: 1) fully warrant the mandates of the Department in ensuring that its programs and projects are implemented with utmost quality, dedication, and commitment; and 2) ensure that MTB-MLE is administered according to the policies and guidelines issued by DepEd.
In a message, DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones highlighted the impact of the program to the students amidst challenges and formidable initial costs, “Implementing MTB-MLE will be truly significant to the lives of the learners if we work together in this endeavor. By rendering ourselves fully in the Department’s thrusts and mandates, we can ensure the success of our labors in the long run which will secure many educational, social, political, and developmental pay-off.”
The general goal of the conference was to showcase best practices of MTB-MLE implementers in successfully using mother tongue in the teaching and learning process.
In addition, initiatives of each region to guarantee the proper execution of MTB-MLE were displayed in an exhibit.
The three-day conference, attended by 450 program implementers and 39 personnel from DepEd Central Office, had five parallel sessions with the themes: Parallel Session 1: Policy and Contextualization
Parallel Session 2: Orthographies
Parallel Session 3: Material Development and other Learning Resources
Parallel Session 4: Community Involvement
Parallel Session 5: Moving Forward… Next Step
At the end of all sessions, the best practices, issues, challenges, and interventions, shared by some of the country’s most passionate MTB-MLE implementers, were discussed in the conference synthesis, which would help ensure the quality of implementation and in planning for the next two years of the program’s execution.
