REAL, Quezon - Water shortages linked to the effects of El Niño have prompted the local government to implement immediate measures to protect the municipality's water supply. Emergency interventions are now underway while longer-term water projects continue.
Mayor Julie Ann Orozco Macasaet led the installation of a water pump to increase the flow of water from the town's main source, a river that has been affected by declining water levels. The local government installed the pump to augment the municipality's existing water supply.
The water shortage has prompted the municipality to pursue both immediate and long-term measures to increase water availability. The installation of the water pump proceeded while work on additional water supply projects continued.
Meanwhile, the municipality continues the construction of a deep well as part of its long-term effort to expand and improve the local water supply system. The project is expected to add to the municipality's water supply in the coming months.
The water pump remains in operation as part of the municipality's response to the continuing water shortage. Construction of the deep well also continues as the local government works to develop an additional source of water for residents.
