Calauag, Quezon -- “The development of a city is evident in the value of nature”, said strongly by Juliet Narte - PASU of Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape and one of the PAMB Secretariat / MSPL staff under CENRO CHIEF MABESA’s office.

According to Narte, we must all unite for the environment.

She said that because of our environment there is a need for people’s support and participation, so she encourages private individuals to plant trees to ensure sustainable conservation of biodiversity in our forests, mountains and oceans.

Narte emphasized the protection and conservation of protected areas in the province such as the Quezon Protected Landscape where the Department of Environment and Natural Resources has strictly enforced the laws. Various species of trees should not be planted in protected areas because their will be genetic erosion of native trees in the said area. Narte cited as an example the Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape located in Guinyangan Quezon which was declared Protected Area on April 23, 2000 under Proclamation No. 295 and measuring 149, 008 hectares in barangays Himbubulo Weste, San Pedro I, and Magsaysay in said town.

According to Narte, the MSPL is the Cradles of Various species of flora and fauna and characterized to have very rich biodiversity. MSPL-PASU said the “the protected area is classified as a tropical rain forest wherein various species of Dipterocarpus, Diopyros, Vitex, Pterocarpus, Sindora, Ficus and Syzgium thrive. The Molave, locally know as” Maulawin “once dominated the area hence the name Maulawin Spring Protected Landscape. The protected area also plays a significant role in the community of Guinyangan Quezon being the primary source of potable water of the metro poblacion and adjacent barangays “.
