If you live in the Philippines, you will eventually realize that summer is almost over. And what comes after summer? Rainy season!

Rainy season is good. The weather is usually cool. Farmers expect this season as a good time to plant rice and other staples. But being in the Philippines, you should know what rainy season brings. It brings rain, a lot of it. Philippines being conveniently on a typhoon prone location in the Pacific Ocean usually experience a lot of heavy rains in a year.

Typhoon is a common natural disaster that can occur in any places on earth especially countries near to the Pacific Ocean. They can attack more often particularly in areas prone to typhoons. Typhoons can have weak intensity but there are typhoons that can cause severe destruction and can kill many human lives. Typhoon can cause lots of destruction in vegetation, building structures and it can even wipe out a town in just few hours. It can cause floods, landslides and can cause several diseases of the typhoon’s aftermath.

Once television and radio announced that a typhoon is about to attack, you shouldn’t be just a couch potato and wait until some dreadful situation happens. It is important to have preparations before typhoon comes.

On average, around 6 to 7 typhoons hit the country per year. This number seems to increase in the past decade.

Filipinos are usually resilient to these weather events. You can see it in the types of houses that they build. For example, people in Batanes make their homes out of stone. Even their roofs are made of stone. These stone houses are suited for the heavy winds brought to by typhoons.

When a typhoon warning has been raised, the Philippine government usually calls it a holiday. When a holiday has been called because of a typhoon, you usually do not want to stay out of home.

It is important to prepare out for typhoons. Whether the typhoon is weak or strong, it is always advisable for you to consider to have preparations before typhoon comes, so that you won’t end up in a more destructive result once typhoon hit your area.

Even if you notice that there is no rushing wind and rain outside, you should still stay inside your house and wait for further updates. It might be possible that you’re experiencing the typhoon’s eye wherein no signs of heavy rains are seen.
