DTI to launch youth entrepreneurship program in Calabarzon

CALAMBA CITY, Laguna -The Department of Trade and Industry Region 4-A will launch an entrepreneurship program for the youth that offers comprehensive package of interventions to develop their entrepreneurial skills.

In a statement, DTI Region 4A said the program dubbed "Young Entrepreneurship Program: Harnessing Our Own Resources for the Advancement of the Youth (YEP-HOORAY)" will be introduced to young entrepreneurs during the 5th Regional MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) Development Council Conference happening on September 26 at the Cultural Center of Laguna.

DTI Regional Director Marilou Toledo said the YEP seeks to encourage positive entrepreneurial mindset among the youth.

“The CALABARZON MSME Development Council is engaging stakeholders and support sectors to highlight YEP to promote youth entrepreneurship development in the country. The program aims to serve as an avenue to inspire and capacitate young people to become smarter and competitive entrepreneurs,” Toledo said.

Toledo added that the "YEP supports the government’s growth agenda of doubling the number of entrepreneurs in the country by 2022, which will in turn, broaden the gains of economic development, address inequality, and uplift the quality of life of Filipinos, particularly the youth."

The DTI Region 4A said their agency will gather 350 participants composed of aspiring and existing entrepreneurs aged 18-30 and classified as not in education, employment, or training (NEET), students, youth organization, and youth with disabilities from the different parts of the region.

Members of the Regional and Provincial MSME Development Councils, Industry Cluster Leaders, Development Agency-Partners, Banks and Financing Institutions, the academe, NGOs, and NGAs are also expected to attend the said event.

Aside from the launching of YEP program, a ceremonial signing of a memorandum of understanding between the DTI Region 4A and the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) - South Luzon for the government-led to stakeholder-led advocacy and consumer advocacy activities is also set to transpire in the upcoming conference.

The MSME Development Council Conference which now on its fifth run is an annual MSME gathering organized by the DTI Region 4A to instill innovation and enhance competitiveness among MSMEs in the region.

The DTI Region 4A said it has partnered with different institutions such as the Regional MSME Development Council, Bureau of Small and Medium Enterprise Development (BSMED), Negosyo Center (NC) Project Management Unit, Office of the Governor- Province of Laguna, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-South Luzon, PCCI Laguna, and SB Corporation for this year's MSME Development Council Conference.
