BIÑAN — With less than two months left before the start of the Southeast Asian Games, the city government is going full throttle in preparing the Biñan Football Stadium for the women's football competition.

"Syempre, busy lahat kahit si Mayor (Arman Dimaguila), LGU (local government unit), [at] yung mga partners namin para mag-prepare nga ating football field (Of course, everyone is busy including Mayor, LGU, and our partners for our football preparation)," said Vice Mayor Gel Alonte in an interview with the Philippine News Agency.

Among the main agenda right now is to test the floodlights at the pitch.

"This coming Tuesday, we may turn them on," Alonte bared.

If plans push through, the venue will host the training of the Philippine women's football team, making this a timely move for the home side to get acclimatized to night games.

"Dito magpa-practice ang Philippine team (will practice here) starting Monday," Alonte continued.

He added he is open to the idea of making Stallion Laguna's final home match in the Philippines Football League season against Green Archers United as a test event for the floodlights.

"Alam naman ni Coach Ernie [Nierras] (Stallion Laguna mentor and former national women's team coach). Kasama siya sa team na magha-handle for the SEA Games dito sa Binan (What coach Ernie knew is he is part of the team that will handle for the SEA Games here in Binan)," Alonte quipped.

He said the city government is also upgrading the venue's facilities with the hopes of finishing them in time for the start of the SEA Games women's football event.

One of the sports that will kick off before the formal start of the games, the women's football competition will begin on Nov. 26.

The Biñan Football Stadium will also host some men's football matches for the 30th SEAG slated from Nov. 30 to Dec. 11 this year. (PNA)
