Finally! Residents of of Parañaque, Las Piñas, and Bacoor in Cavite are elated and hopeful that the long awaited LRT 1- Cavite project is moving forward with the upcoming arrival of new trains this July 2020.

The first train set for the Php 64.9 billion LRT Cavite Line 1 is expected to arrive from Spain by July this year and 91% of the right of way for the first phase of the extension project had been acquired, revealed Department of Transportation (DOTr) Assistant Secretary Goddes Hope Oliveros-Libiran in a Business World interview.


The DOTr estimates that 300,000 daily passengers of these cities will greatly benefit from the faster and convenient commute as the usual travel time of 1 to 2 hours from Baclaran to Bacoor and vice versa will be significantly reduced to just 25 minutes.

The train set is comparable to four times the light rail vehicles of the LRT-1 and will be delivered by Mitsubishi Corp and its technical partner Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles.

The project will be adding the 11.7-kilometer rail extension line starting from Baclaran, to Pasay City, ending at Bacoor in Cavite to complement the existing 18.1-kilometer LRT-1 train line. The new line will have eight stations: Redemptorist, MIA Road, Asia World, Ninoy Aquino, Dr. Santos, Las Pinas, Zapote, and Niog in Cavite.

The initial first phase of the project will have a span of seven kilometers with five stations between Redemptorist Church in Baclaran and Dr. Santos Avenue in Parañaque City and is expected to start operating by the end of 2021.

The rest of the line from Las Piñas to Niog Bacoor, Cavite is anticipated to be completed a year later.

Light Rail Manila Corp which operates the LRT-1 was awarded the public-private partnership (PPP) in a joint venture with Ayala Corp., Metro Pacific Light Rail Corp., and Macquarie Infrastructure Holdings.

The DOTr also launched the Cavite-Manila ferry service to cut down travel between Cavite City and Manila with two ports, in Pasay City and Port Area.

The new Philippine National Railways (PNR) routes for faster travel between Laguna and Manila was also launched while the PNR Bicol Express Train Route is set to resume. (GoodNews Pilipinas)
