LTFRB conducts Modern PUV Caravan in Batangas

LIPA CITY, Batangas - Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Region 4 conducted a Modern Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) Caravan at SM City on February 17, 2020.

With the Theme ”Arangkada ng Pagbabago Tungo Sa Kaunlaran,” the caravan aims to showcase a variety of Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP) compliant units to the stakeholders including drivers,operators and riding public.

According to LTFRB Regional Director Renwick Rutaquio, they were hoping to promote, educate, engage and encourage support of stakeholders of the program.

“Exhibitors showcased their units that were all compliant to the standards, we hope to give our stakeholders like operators and drivers to have a glimpse of different types and what they offer. We hope we can help them with these options on the modernization program,” added Rutaquio.

Mr. Joel Bolano, Chief of LTFRB Central Office Technical Division, discussed the background of PUVMP emphasizing that all franchise for single operators will end by June 2020 and public utility vehicles must organized a cooperative that will apply for franchise at the LTFRB.

Meanwhile, Engr. Eugene Diaz, chief of Land Transportation Office Cabuyao District Office discussed road safety mentioning that two of the main reasons of road crash are speeding and impaired driving.

“In Calabarzon, based on study, Quezon Province has the highest road crash incidents based on the data gathered from May 2017-December 2019,” he noted.

On the other hand, Land Bank of the Philippines and Development Bank of the Philippines discussed the loans and subsidy that they are giving to cooperatives who opt to acquire units thru loans from partner banks.

The event was attended by jeepney operators, drivers and 11 exhibitors of the modern PUV units. (BHABY P. DE CASTRO-PIA Batangas)
