TAGKAWAYAN, Quezon - The Philippine Information Agency- Quezon Information Center held its weekly “Kapihan sa PIA” in this town on February 1, 2020 as one of the lined-up activities to promote Tagkawayan's annual "Kaway Festival."

Tagkawayan Mayor Luis Oscar Eleazar said during the "Kapihan sa PIA" that “Kaway Festival” aims to promote the culture and traditions and the local tourism in the municipality

“Kaway," according to Mayor Eleazar means invite, and traits of local residents of being friendly, hospitable and accommodating to visitors.

‘Kaway Festival’ is celebrated annualy in time of the founding anniversary of the town and this year it's the 79th founding anniversary,” Mayor Eleazar said during the kapihan.

“Kaway Festival" started on February 1, 2020 with the following activities: Walk for Life; opening of ARKO contest; Kapihan – Media day; presentation of candidates of Ms. And Mr. Tagkawayan 2020; street party, and billiard tournament.

The succeeding days, the schedule of activities are as follows: Feb 2, Paghahatid at Pagluloklok sa Patron; Grand Rosary Rally and billiards tournament ; Feb 3, Opening of Arts Exhibit; Local film festival and judging and billiards tournament; Feb 4, Araw ng Magsasaka- Opening of agri-booth at Convention center and Singing Idol and Beer Plaza; and Feb 5, Araw ng mangingisda; Skateboard Competition; Globe ML Tournament and Gabi ng Kabataan.

Other activities also include the Second judging of booth competition and Governor’s night (Feb.6); Culinary Competition-Food Expo. Coronation of G. and Bb. Tagkawayan (Feb. 7); Motorbike Endurance Challenge Registration; Final Judging – Booth Competition and “Gabi ng kalinangan” (Feb. 8); Sayawayan Street Dancing Competition and Sayawayan Ritual Competition (Feb. 9).

Municipal tourism officer Sarina Anonuevo said “Kaway Festival” is now included in the list of tourist attractions/destinations of the Provincial Tourism Office and the Department of Tourism. (Ruel Orinday-PIA-Quezon)
